Okay, guys, I’m taking the plunge! I’m getting braces. I know, I know… it’s about time, right? 😅 But honestly, I’m a little nervous. Not gonna lie, the thought of metal in my mouth for months (and maybe years?!) is a bit daunting.
But I’m also kind of excited. I mean, who doesn’t want a perfect smile? ✨ And let’s be real, this is a perfect opportunity to kick my late-night snacking habit to the curb. (Goodbye, midnight Cheetos! 👋)
I’ve already had my consultations (and gotten some very different opinions on how long this whole thing will take!). More on that later…
Wish me luck! (And send chocolate. The soft kind. 😉)
Week -23: The Reality of Braces Sets In
After getting my braces on, the initial excitement quickly gave way to discomfort. A loose bracket after my first meal and persistent pain made me wonder if I was experiencing a metal allergy. Despite the discomfort, I struggled to control my snacking habits, even finding myself munching on nuts during a late-night work session. The result? Rashes and a swollen face! Clearly, some adjustments were needed.
Week -24: Embracing the Process
Getting my braces put on was a two-hour process, including documentation and check-in. I appreciated that the office provided thorough documentation, capturing the initial state of my teeth. It’s a valuable reminder of where I started and reinforces my commitment to the journey.
Week -25: Choosing the Right Path
I consulted with two orthodontists who presented different treatment plans and timelines, ranging from 6 to 18 months. Ultimately, I opted for the shorter plan since my teeth were already in relatively good condition. Beyond the cosmetic benefits, I saw this as an opportunity to break my bad snacking habits. I’m hopeful that the braces will encourage me to make healthier food choices.
Week -26: A Glimpse of Progress
This week brought a welcome surprise – a sudden relief from the discomfort! I attribute this to a dedicated 30-minute flossing session the night before. Being able to bite more comfortably allowed me to enjoy a delicious and much-needed breakfast with my college friends.
